Terms to Learn When Working With a Designer Pool Builder

Hello and welcome to my new pool blog. My name is William and I live with my wife and our pet cats in a small town in Eastern Australia. I worked very hard last year and saved a lot of money so we could have a new pool installed on our property. We had a fantastic summer of swimming in it. It was a lot of fun. However, I recently noticed that it was beginning to get cloudy. I had no idea why. My friend who is a pool contractor inspected the pool and explained I needed to add some cleaning chemicals. I decided to start a blog to help others who are having problems with their pools.

When you're fortunate enough to work with a designer pool builder, you want to ensure you know all the features and options available for you. Note a few of these here so you're sure to wind up with a pool you love, and that your friends and family will also enjoy for many years to come.

Grotto

A grotto is like a cave but meant to be very picturesque and inviting. If you have enough space in your yard, you can have a small artificial grotto built over and around one end of the pool. The grotto should be high enough for you to easily walk into it or even paddle into with a small kayak or canoe, and it can add a very attractive, natural element to the space. It also adds some privacy to the pool, and can shade you from the sun and any strong winds while still allowing you to enjoy your time in the water.

Infinity pool

An infinity pool will have one side with a ledge lower than the others, so that the water can fall over this ledge; the water gets caught in a receptacle below the pool and is recycled. An infinity pool gives you the best view of the surrounding area when you're in the pool, as there is nothing to block your line of sight. If you live on a hill or are having the pool installed outside an apartment in an upper story, an infinity pool can be the best choice for that amazing view.

Endless pool

An endless pool is not to be confused with an infinity pool; an endless pool is one with jets at one end. These jets create currents that are strong enough for you to swim against, keeping you in one spot, like a treadmill. This gives you the chance to swim for exercise but without having to invest in a pool long enough for you to swim laps. An endless pool can even have a type of band on the opposite end of the jets, to slide over your waist and provide more resistance and a more challenging workout.

Scuppers

Scuppers are like fountains except they don't shoot water straight up into the air but pull water up from the pool and then push it over the ledge of a built-in basin. This gives you the look and sound of running water but without the same amount of spray you might get from an actual fountain.
