Pool Pumps: Recognising the Signs of Impending Repairs

Hello and welcome to my new pool blog. My name is William and I live with my wife and our pet cats in a small town in Eastern Australia. I worked very hard last year and saved a lot of money so we could have a new pool installed on our property. We had a fantastic summer of swimming in it. It was a lot of fun. However, I recently noticed that it was beginning to get cloudy. I had no idea why. My friend who is a pool contractor inspected the pool and explained I needed to add some cleaning chemicals. I decided to start a blog to help others who are having problems with their pools.

The pump is one of the most vital components of your pool as this equipment functions to circulate your pool water. Without proper circulation, your pool water will not be filtered efficiently, and it will only be a matter of time before your pool becomes a health hazard. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of any signs that your pool pump may be on the decline and have it attended to by a professional post haste. Here are a few of the symptoms that would help you in recognising that your pool pump is facing impending repairs.

The pool pump has started to become noisy

If your pool pump does not sound right to you, it is more than likely that the equipment has become compromised. Usually when the pool pump is in operation, you will hear a low hum that will not increase in volume. However, if your pool starts becoming noisy, you should be wary of two main sounds. Rumbling noises coming from the pool pump would be indicative of vibrations occurring within the pump. The second noise to be wary of would be screeching sounds as these would be indicative of worn bearings on the pump. Nonetheless, no matter the sound, it is best to seek professional pump repairs to have the underlying problem addressed.

The pool pump has started leaking

The thing to note about a leaking pool pump is that it can be caused due to a vast assortment of reasons. As such, it is never advisable to try to handle the problem on your own as the leak may be caused by multiple reasons. The most common cause of a leak in your pool pump would be displacement of one of the pipes, which would come about if an O-ring has acquired some damage over time. It is best to hire a professional pool technician to diagnose what has caused the leak and remedy it before it ends up causing larger issues with your pump down the road.

The pool pump keeps turning off

There are two main ways that you could operate your pool pump. The first is manual, where you would have to switch the pump on and off. The second is timer automation, where you will set a specific time for your pool pump to run on a daily basis. With both these methods, you have full control over when the pump should go on and off. If you find that your pool pump has started turning itself off, chances are there is an underlying problem. Some of the causes of this include an inadequate power supply, overheating of the pump, clogged vents and more.
